NLA has two libraries

  • the library at Campus Sandviken
  • the library at Campus Breistein
  • the  library in Sandviken has 40.000 books and over 200 periodicals.
  • the library in Breistein contains 21.000 books, and 115 periodicals.

16. - 17. August: 08.00 a.m. - 03.25 p.m.
From 18. August:
Monday - Friday: 8.00 a.m. - 06.00 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday: closed

Library rules and regulations

  • There is a two week loan period for all books on the reading lists.
  • All other books can be borrowed for a four week loan period.
  • Journals (except this years journals) have a two week loan period.
  • Items can be renewed if they have not been reserved by another borrower. Items must be returned/renewed within the due date.
  • All borrowed items must be returned  to the library before moving from Bergen. No items can be taken out of the country.
  • The library card is personal and the holder is responsible for all borrowed materials and their return. It is important to give change of address if you move within Bergen. Lost cards must be reported to the library.
  • If borrowed items are not returned or have been damaged, the borrower must pay the fine of nkr. 500,-per book.
  • You are not allowed to loan library materials to a second party.
  • You can reserve books that are already checked out of the library. After the loaning period expires the book can be collected at the library’s front desk.
  • If the library does not own a specific journal you need, we can order article copies from other academic libraries within Norway. These article copies have to be paid for, at the moment nkr. 60,- per article.

Dewey system

The library uses the Dewey decimal classification system. This system is composed of ten main subject groups. Each subject group is placed into a specific numeral categories ranging from 000 – 999.

Bibsys system

NLA is a member of Bibsys database system, which also all Norwegian University libraries and other academic libraries in Norway uses. To find a specific subject area and what Dewey classification number a book has, you have to use our computer system. 


NLA Brage Open Research Archive

NLA Brage Open Research Archive is an institutional repository containing scientific and research related material from the NLA School of Religion, Education and Intercultural Studies. Here you will find full-text articles, dissertations, thesis and other digital materials.
