Checklist for starting to study
Accept the offer of a place at NLA University College
You accept the offer of a place through the online application in Samordna Opptak (the Norwegian Universities and Colleges' Admission Service). If you have applied via a local admissions scheme, you accept the offer of a place in Søknadsweb (the application web).
Activate your user account
All new students who accept the offer of a place at NLA University College have a user account automatically set up for them. You activate the user account yourself before starting to study.
Your username and password can among other things be used for the following services: the University College's learning platforms (itslearning, Canvas) and wireless network (eduroam), student PCs, Inspera, Studentweb and Feide (Feidetjenester).
NB: In order to log into the wireless network, you must add @nla.no to your user name. Your user account cannot normally be used until 1 August.
Pay your semester fee
In order to be registered as a student, you must have paid the semester fee to the Student Welfare Organisation (Studentsamskipnaden). NLA University College will start to send out invoices to new students at the beginning of August. The invoice will contain your student number and PIN code for, among other things, activating a user account. You can also use your PIN code to log into StudentWeb. If you have previously studied at NLA University College, you will find the invoice on Studentweb.
The tuition fee invoice is published on Studenweb in August. Students in Bergen will receive an invoice stating both their semester fee and tuition fee. Haven't you received an invoice? Contact email@example.com.
Semester registration and approval of the education plan
Once the semester fee is registered as having been paid (this may take up to three working days after you have paid), you can register for the semester on Studentweb. When registering for the semester, check that your updated address(es) are registered, examine and approve your education plan and register for teaching and assessment (for students with an education plan, this registration takes place automatically, but you still have to check that you can find your teaching and assessment notifications under Active Topics (Aktive emner)). If the registration is successful, the notice that you must register for the semester disappears from the front page of Studentweb. The Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund will now be notified that you are registered as a student at NLA so that your grant and loan can be paid to you, and you will be given access to the subject pages on itslearning for the subjects for which you are registered (both these synchronisations take place once every 24 hours).
Come to the study location
You must personally be present at the study location at the start of the academic year. You will lose your place at NLA University College if you do not give notice of the reason for your absence.
Once you are registered for the semester, you can get a student card with your picture and a sticker on it. Your photograph can be taken at fixed times when the semester is starting. With a valid student card, you can receive a discount on such things as public transport. You can get the sticker confirming your membership of the Student Welfare Organisation from the NLA reception area once your payment of the fee to the Student Welfare Organisation has been registered.
We also offer digital student cards.
Learning platforms Itslearning and Canvas
Logging into Itslearning or Canvas must take place via NLA's website. Choose Log in with Feide. You must have activated a user account (see above) in order to log in. In order to gain access to the subjects on the learning platform, you must normally have registered for the semester and approved your education plan on Studentweb. You can find information on the teaching, PowerPoint presentations, important messages, etc, on the subject pages on the learning platform. As a student, you are obliged to check itslearning (both the subject pages and messages) at least once a week.
As from the autumn of 2017, new students taking the primary school teacher course will use Canvas as a learning platform instead of itslearning.
Practical information on public transport, parking, opening hours, etc, at the various study locations can be found here:
Via the buddy committee, the Student Democracy (Studentdemokratiet (a student body established to safeguard student interests)) arranges a buddy week for NLA students in Bergen at the start of the autumn semester. Information will be provided before the semester starts.
