Arendalsuka (“Arendal Week”) is an annual political and societal festival held in Arendal every August. Arendalsuka is a week-long event where politicians, organizations, researchers, businesses and citizens meet to discuss important issues in society. It is Norway’s biggest arena for public debate. The event is also called Norway’s democracy festival.
We will follow two panel discussions in Arendal.
13.00 Debate: Who controls my access to - and trust in the truth? (Venue: Skoleskipet MS Gann)
In the light of the Epstein scandal: how do we process information, mainstream and alternative? Are the algorithms in control?
14.00-15.40 Free time in Arendal
15.40 Meet by Trefoldighetskirken (Trinity Church) – we walk together to Bakgården
16.00 Media power in conflict: Israel, Palestine, Iran and the battle for public opinion (Venue: Båkgården, Nedre Tyholmsvei 16)
How is public opinion about the Middle East conflicts shaped by the media? What concepts, images, narratives and sources dominate the coverage of Israel, Palestine and Iran – and how does this affect the public’s understanding of the region?
In this event, we invite journalists, editors and professionals to an open and analytical conversation about the role of the media in the coverage of war, geopolitics and polarization. The aim is not to take a position on the conflicts, but to examine how journalistic choices – language, source use, historical context and angle – shape the narratives that characterize the public.
17.00 End of the programme.
Return to Kristiansand by public transport.
10.00 National and Global Media Use - Meet Norwegian BA students in Journalism and Media | Redaksjonen
