Research and Development
NLA University College conducts research within a wide range of subject areas and has a varied research environment, which has the task and function of creating an environment for research, artistic development work, publication, research and knowledge development.


Profiled researcher at NLA University College
Kari-Mette Walmann Hidle is Professor of Social Studies in teacher education at NLA University College. She heads the research group Social Sciences and Humanities (SOSH) and plays a central role in the SA-SMIL project, which examines social studies at the lower primary level (year 1-4) from a teacher’s perspective. Hidle holds a PhD from the programme in Religion, Ethics and Society at the University of Agder (UiA). She defended her thesis, which is an analysis of interpretations of personal identity and the norm for the primary human affiliation in the preparatory works to the «Same sex-marriage»-acts, in 2013. Hidle’s research interests are centred on three main areas: social studies didactics; diversity and human rights; and sociology of education and knowledge. She has extensive experience from teacher education for the secondary, primary and early childhood teacher education programmes at NLA and UiA. Hidle teaches and supervises students at all educational levels, from introductory to doctoral level.

Ph.D. in Social Responsibility and Education
NLA University College has recently submitted an application for accreditation of a new Ph.D. program in social responsibility and education. The program stems from the college's academic and value-based commitment to understanding how values, education, and responsibility shape people and society.
