In this article, we explore the legacy of Hans Nielsen Hauge (1771–1824) as an entrepreneur, innovator and business leader. By examining Hauge’s approach to entrepreneurship and business development in light of social entrepreneurship theory, this article attempts to shed more light on why he started them in the first place, and how he was able to integrate his social mission with starting and developing multiple businesses. Also, many of his followers had a similar passion and approach to businesses, as they grew to become a national movement with a significant social impact on different local communities.
