New library users
Hello and welcome to the library! Here you will find physical and digital books and journals, newspapers and other resources. We also have reading and work spaces that are suitable for both self-study and group work. You are welcome to talk and eat here, as long as you show consideration for others and clean up after yourself. In addition to loans, we also offer courses and guidance in source referencing, searching and assignment writing.

As a student at NLA University College, you can borrow books and other resources from us. The library is staffed between 09:00-15:00, so this is a good time to drop by if you have any questions. You are also welcome to use the library outside of staffed opening hours, and you will find both search PCs and a lending machine here. The student ID app and your physical student card can be used as a library card on the machine.
Library card
- All borrowers must bring a valid library card.
- For students, the student card functions as a library card.
- The borrower must ensure that the borrower information is correct. These can be changed via "my account" in Oria (link to further information).
Loan periods
- Ordinary loan period for books: 4 weeks
- Curriculum literature: 2 weeks
- Journals: 2 weeks
- Day loans: not for home loans
Other loan rules
- Borrowers are responsible for all documents borrowed in their name. It is not permitted to lend material to others without going through the library.
- Loans can be renewed, but books with a waiting list must be returned by the due date.
- It is not allowed to take the books abroad.
- After three reminders, a claim for compensation will be sent out.
- Lost and damaged books must be replaced. The compensation amount per book is currently a minimum of NOK 500.
- If the claim for compensation is not paid, the library can proceed with legal debt collection, which will be charged to the borrower. Borrowing rights will be withdrawn in the event of a claim for compensation.
- You can reserve books that are on loan by logging into Oria. However, books that are available on the shelf cannot be reserved or ordered; you must pick them up yourself.
Oria is the database where you can search for the literature you are looking for. Here you will find information about which shelves the physical books are on, and access to our electronic resources such as journal articles, journals, student papers, etc.
If you are off campus, you must use eduVPN to access our electronic resources.
If the material you are looking for is out on loan, you can put yourself on a waiting list. You will then be notified by e-mail and SMS as soon as the desired material is available and can be picked up at the library.
If what you want to borrow is available on the shelf in the library, you can find it yourself and borrow it either at the machine or at the library reception desk. Ask us if you need help finding your way around, we are happy to help.
As a student, you are responsible for obtaining curriculum literature, and the library is a supplement to this. We usually have two copies of textbooks in addition to one day loan copy for loan at the library. The loan period for textbooks is 2 weeks, and other books have a 4 week loan period.
The curriculum lists in Leganto are linked to Oria, so you can check directly whether the book is available from us.
When writing academic papers, you must remember to exercise source criticism and refer to the sources you use. You are responsible for all source usage in your text. We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the online resources Kildekompasset and Søk og Skriv. We offer courses in Apa 7, searching and EndNote and you can find an overview of the semester's courses on information screens, notices at the library and the library's website. You can also contact us at the counter with questions, or book individual guidance with one of the librarians.
