Welcome to International Partner Days at NLA University College on April 20-22, 2026 in Bergen.

The event is designed for academic and administrative staff from NLA's international partner institutions.

Information

This event is designed for staff members at NLA’s international partner institutions. We welcome management, faculty staff, international office staff, and other administrative staff.

How to get there

There are direct flights to Bergen Airport Flesland (BGO) from several international airports.

The city center can be reach by Bergen Light Rail (bybanen) – it takes about 45 minutes from the airport to the city centre. Tickets are bought in the “Skyss” app. Both the city center and the airport are within Zone A.

Monday 20. April
Campus Kalfaret, Kalfarveien 31

Campus Kalfaret is located in the city centre and is within walking distance from many hotels.

Registration starts at 9.00.

The programme starts at 9.30 sharp.

  • Opening Music - by NLA staff members Ingrid Trætteberg and Gunnar Innerdal

  • Opening Remarks – by Sigbjørn Sødal, Rector

  • NLA University College – Who We Are – by Amund Langøy, Vice-Rector for Education

  • Presentation of NLAs study programmes in English – by NLA International Office

  • Interview with international students – by NLA International Office

  • Lunch

  • Campus Tour Kalfaret

  • «Teach Meet» - choose session 1 or 2 (see below)

  • Group photo (the photos may be published on NLA website or social media)

  • The programme at the campus will be finished by around 15.15. After that, those who wish can join an optional Walking City Tour

  • Networking Dinner at 18.00 (see below)

Teach Meet

Option 1: International Officers / Coordinators

Get to know each other. Each institution prepares a short presentation (max. 5 minutes): Best practice – please present one specific action or result related to internationalization that you are proud of. The session is led by International Coordinators Elisabeth Søvde and Torunn Sæther.

Option 2: Faculty Staff

Each institution prepares a short presentation (5 minutes): How do you work with education and research? For instance: Which study programmes do you have, online programmes, which digital platforms do you use, teaching methods, research etc. The session is led by Dr. Svitlana Holovchuk and Dr. Wills Kalisha

Networking Dinner at 18.00 at Fløirestauranten

The restaurant can be reach by Fløibanen, a funicular railway that runs from the center of Bergen to Mount Fløyen, 320 meters above sea level. Tickets to Fløibanen are available through the Fløibanen app or on their website. It is recommended to buy the ticket in advance but it is also possible to purchase a ticket at the Fløibanen station. Fløibanen runs normally every 15 minutes and the journey takes 4-8 minutes. Due to an annual running event on this day, Fløibanen will be closed for a few hours and we strongly recommend you to take the 17.30 departure by latest, in order to reach the restaurant before the Fløibanen closes.

Thuesday 21. April
Campus Sandviken, Amalie Skrams vei 3

Campus Sandviken can be reached by walking (approximately 45 minutes from the city center) or by taking a bus to “Amalie Skrams vei” or to “Sandvikstorget”. Please use “Skyss” app for route guidance and for tickets.

  • Challenges in the Age of AI – by Dr. Clemens Cavallin, Professor, Dept. of Theology, Religion and Philosophy
  • How to become Norwegian in One Year - by Irene Kinunda Afriyie, Author and Speaker, NLA Alumni

Networking afternoon

  • Stands – Institutions can present and visit each others’ stands. NLA students and staff are invited to visit the stands.
  • Lunch
  • Departure from the campus at 13.15 for the boat trip. There are two options how to get to “Bryggen”. You can walk (approximately 40 minutes) or you can take a bus.
  • Meeting point at “Bryggen” at 14.15 for the boat trip
  • Fjord cruise from 15.00-18.30

Wednesday 22. April

  • Workshops – choose Workshop 1, 2 or 3 (see below)

  • Closing of the event at approximately 14.30

Workshop 1

Digitalization in Higher Education.

Main target group: Academic staff

How to prepare: You are kindly asked to prepare for a conversation about how you work with digitalization – for example online studies, hybrid teaching, and online supervision. You may also reflect on which digital platforms you use to communicate with students. The workshop is led by Dr. Svitlana Holovchuk, Dept. of Teacher Education

Workshop 2

Building Research Capacity in Higher Education.

Main target group: Academic staff

How to prepare: You are kindly asked to prepare for a conversation about which research groups and research centers you have, which research projects you are working on, where you apply for external research funding, and which funding sources you use. The workshop is led by Dr. Wills Kalisha, Dept. of Education.

Workshop 3

Main target group: International Office staff

The workshop has two topics, one before and one after lunch.

Workshop 3A (before lunch): Digitalization in the International Office

How to prepare: You are kindly asked to be prepared to discuss how digital tools and AI are used in the International Office or within other contexts related to internationalization at your institution.

The workshop is led by NLA International Office staff.

Workshop 3B (after lunch): Intercultural Communication Dilemmas in the International Office

How to prepare: You are kindly asked to prepare a case about a situation you have experienced in communication with either incoming or outgoing students. In the workshop you will present the cases in groups and discuss the situation and how you dealt with it. The workshop will consist of both theoretical perspectives and reflections from your own experiences.

The workshop is led by Dr. Solveig Omland, Dept. of Intercultural Studies, and Mari Sagulin, Head of International Relations.

 

Costs

The event is free of charge but you must cover your travel expenses to and from Bergen as well as your accommodation. You are encouraged to apply for Erasmus+ staff training funds from your institution.

What is included: lunch every day, networking dinner and fjord cruise

What is not included: travel to and from Bergen, accommodation, funicular ticket to Fløirestauranten (networking dinner), snacks/drinks during the fjord cruise

How to apply

  • We can accommodate up to 40 participants at this event.
  • Applicants will be admitted on a first‑come, first‑served basis.
  • If the total number of applications exceeds 40, each institution will be allocated a maximum of two participant slots. In such cases, institutions with more than two applicants will be contacted after the application deadline and asked to prioritize their two selected participants.
  • If fewer than 40 applications are received in total, institutions may be able to send more than two participants.

Application deadline was February 15 and the registration form has now been closed.

Accommodation

You need to arrange your own accommodation and you are free to choose where to stay. However, NLA has made arrangements with two hotels if you you wish to stay at one of them. Both of them need to be booked latest by March 8 in order to get the discounted price.

Double room NOK 1,390 per room per night incl. breakfast buffet.

By stating the code 163252, agreed prices are offered. The code only works in direct contact with the hotel and not on their websites.
