A critique of Siebert’s four theories of the press
Frederick S. Siebert’s Four Theories of the Press (1963) probably contitute the most well-known attempt to clarify the link between mass media and the political society in modern world. Since the theory was presented in 1963, it has been widely accepted and utilized by media scholars. Nevertheless, a critical evaluation shows that Siebert's theories are outdated and too simplistic to be useful in today's media research.
