This study focusing aggression in primary school. Aggression is seen as a serious problem in society and pupils who show aggression constitutes a widespread problem in school. This master thesis focuses on teachers' experience of having students who show aggression in class and how they experiences can prevent and take action in relation to this. Early intervention is emphasized and the system perspective becomes evident as this appears in the teachers' experience from the project "De utfordrende barna" (DUB) (The challenging children). Teachers who joined this study participate in this project. The goal of the project is to achieve competence to reduce challenging behavior. The aim for this study is: How can the teacher act regarding pupils who show aggression and which impact do the project "De utfordrende barna" has on the teachers work? A qualitative approach has been seen as relevant to answer the question. Empirical data has been gathered through semi-structured interviews with five teachers in primary school. Teachers were asked about the concept of aggression, the experience of having pupils who show aggression in class, dealing with aggression and experiences in relation to the DUBproject. Both theory and empirical evidence shows that the authoritative perspective is seen as preventive in encounters with pupils showing aggression. Relationship building is key competence, while it is emphasized that boundaries, structure and predictability are important. In relation to the DUB-project the teachers emphasizes the importance of awareness, knowledge and sharing experiences through the DUB-project. They experience moreover that it has encountered a closer cooperation between them, and that it is very important to have a common understanding of how to handle aggression in primary school. However, aggression in schools is a widespread problem that have serious consequences both for individual pupils, classmates, teachers and society and there is a need for further studies and interventions on preventing and dealing with aggression in primary schools.
