Elysium

Elysium is an artistic research project that investigates cross-disciplinary practice through the development of a concert experience integrating musical performance, moving image, dance, and scenography. The project explores how these artistic modalities can be orchestrated into a cohesive experiential framework, with particular attention to the interrelations between sound, space, visuality, and embodied performance. This publication presents the perspective of visual arts, design, and experience design, focusing on Torkell Bernsen’s contribution to the collaborative artistic inquiry conducted with researcher and musical artist HAVA (Hanne Vatnøy). It documents the iterative process of developing a visual language for the concert setting, including the creation of animated loops, spatial testing, and experimental integrations of projected imagery within the performative environment.
The material traces the progression from conceptual exploration to performative realization, highlighting how visual elements were shaped in dialogue with musical composition, spatial conditions, and the overarching artistic concept. The concert event was developed and realized during a four-day artist-in-residence period at Meieriet kulturhus, located in Frekhaug outside Bergen, Norway.
