Exprssions of Breath - Glass as material in outdoor participatory performance art
Video presentation 41:22 min
In their presentation Frantzsen&Mjanger reflect on how they are involving the public outside art galleries and studios, by using glass in outdoor participatory performance art. The lecmo presents an analysis of the embodied experiences from their spatial and relational artwork Expressions of Breath. Expressions of Breath is a developing body of work where the artists are using the unique properties of glass in its hot state to "capture" a multitude of breaths from different people. The sculptural forms of breath are explored in different ways after they are blown by examining its texture, visual appearance, its fragility, sound, weight, how it fits to your body, how to carry and lift it. This body of work has these research questions: Through breathing, we all share the same air. What is the shape of breath? How can the invisible become visible? How do we experience this shared and unseen? In our presentation Frantzsen&Mjanger will address these questions: What is participatory performance art? Why use glass outdoor? By using a performative approach, what are the possibilities to reach a broader audience? They will comment on films and photos of the series Expressions of Breath, with a focus on different versions of the performance Walking with Breath, including an adapted version used in the Corona situation.
