Mellom incentiv og individ – leders bruk og holdninger til publiseringsindikatoren : Studie av holdninger til og bruk av publiseringsindikatoren på individnivå ved OsloMet – storbyuniversitetet
Local use of the Norwegian publication indicator at universities and university colleges is one of the main challenges with the indicator. This thesis research how leaders use the Norwegian publication indicator on an individual level and their attitude toward such use. The case study is based on Oslo Metropolitan University, where I conducted an analysis of policy documents and 23 in-depth interviews with administrative and academic leaders. The purpose of this study is to identify local use of the indicator and create a research-based foundation for further discussion about appropriate use. The study show that use varies among academic communities, entities within Oslo Metropolitan University and leaders as individuals. Therefore, is fits with the previous research, but it also contributes with new and conflicted findings. Contrary to previous research, the study shows that leaders in the humanities do not attach more importance to the publication indicator than leaders in other areas, but rather less. The leaders are clear that they want a research culture that is based on collaboration rather than competition. Yet most use the publication indicator for, among other things, results-based allocation of research time.
