Relocating Keil & Delitzsch: Reading a mid-19th Century Bible commentary from Germany with early 21st century theology students from Tanzania and Norway
The article discusses how the German biblical scholar Carl Friedrich Keil (1807-1888) in his Genesis- and Amos-commentaries (in the famous Keil & Delitzsch commentary series, from 1861 onwards) touches contemporary and older conceptions of Africa, cf. Genesis 9:24-27 and Amos 9:7. Keil's focus on Africans as slaves is then discussed with theology students from Tanzania and Norway, from the perspective of how biblical students of today should relate to commentary material of this kind.
