Sub-Saharan Reception of Masenya’s Bosadi Approach
Madipoane Masenya’s search for an interpretive approach that would enable her to read Proverbs and eventually other parts of the Hebrew Bible from an African-South African woman’s perspective led her to develop what she calls a bosadi approach to biblical texts. The article considers the reception of Masenya’s bosadi approach in other sub-Saharan contexts, analysing five scholars who have been inspired by Masenya to do similar studies. The question that is raised is how a consciously contextual approach like bosadi is re-contextualised into other Sub-Saharan contexts than the original Northern Sotho/African-South African one: Kondemo (DRC), Mudimeli (Vhavenḓa, South Africa), Ramaribana (Botswana), Mbowe (Maasai, Tanzania) and Wee (Madagascar).
