The guest lectureship: Gifts and growth of teaching theology across cultures

This chapter examines the benefits and challenges of co-teaching and learning in theological education across national and cultural boundaries, employing both in-person and digital modes of instruction as pedagogical tools. In the initial stages of the Teaching and Learning Theology in Crisis (TLC) project, we sought to engage professors and students from diverse institutions. This collaborative journey encompassed enriching learning experiences as well as challenging moments, particularly in negotiating cultural differences and addressing the complexities of digital learning environments. This chapter places particular emphasis on the role of guest lecturers, underscoring the value of their expertise and the diverse perspectives they bring. It further examines how guest lectures contribute to the internationalisation of the curriculum and engage with the broader metadiscourse concerning the role and perception of guest lecturers. An autobiographical approach, grounded in self-reflection, is employed to identify best practices for teaching youth ministry and theology across institutions worldwide.
